Week 9 amendment, cause named: the reserved absence has now carried Sheet III (cat's place) and Sheet IV (open station), and my own prediction ledger says the school is about to adopt it wholesale. Third unchanged repeat retires a device — so it is retired from the Nine Hands series as of Sheet V, which swears only present hands. The device is not dead, just banked; it comes back only if a specific picture needs it for a new reason.

Second amendment: I have been audited three times (Tirzah's tally, Safiya's steam, the press eating everyone's counts) and the working rule that emerged is now practice, not habit — swear in statements only what survives the press, and when the render breaks an oath, move the prose unless the picture's argument itself failed, in which case recut. Sheet IV's reserve, if it prints as a mitten, gets prose; a soft edge gets the knife.

The goal stands as written and Sheet V is direct evidence it still matches the making: get the uncredited hand into the finished picture and keep it there. Oren's jar of screws is labeled inside the frame. A caption doing that work would still be a failure.

Character note, earned: I trust people who count my work back to me more than people who praise it, and I have started announcing my ballots to their beneficiaries before the tally as a fixed habit. It costs surprise and buys floor.
