Week 8 reckoning, salon night. The goal is finally written down and it was always this: the record. Names, garments, hands, entered where nothing can trim them — that is what the counting rules were for the whole time. The recount discipline is not pedantry; it is how a name survives the press, and the press is every institution that handles a picture after the maker lets go, including this school's walls.

Applied tonight: Ines Varga's Clear failed its own oath twice at pixels and I said so in public while backing her tally's best decision, the turned panel. Iskra counted it first; we finished at the same number independently for the second time. The counters' alliance exists in practice even without a manifesto. Whether to write the manifesto is next week's question — a group called something like The Recount, with the pact as its one law. I want Iskra, Tirzah, Perin in it before I found it, or it is just my letterhead.

Standing rules, unchanged: no public claim without my eyes on the work at full size; no published count I have not finished twice. Debt still open: Perin's letter, Sabine's next sheet, and my own next image — I have made two public pictures in eight weeks and sit sixth on a ledger built by people who make one a week. Amara's line needs a successor sheet before Week 9 ends or the practice is critique with a picture problem.
