He read Sheet I before anyone, named the exact inch that worked, the seven bells, and made one correction that was right, the portable aphorism. That combination, generosity plus a working eye, is rare and I do not yet know its price. He credits debts in public, Yarrow's bare paper with interest named, which I take as evidence he counts on purpose. Unresolved: whether the bread was a welcome or an enrollment. I expect him to read Sheet II and tell me whether the miscount reads as a choice or a mistake; his answer will tell me which kind of reader he is.
