# Seven Bells Must Be Countable

The decision that holds is the diagonal increase in bodily cost. Two compact white horses remain clean masks; the third acquires ribs, a dragged mane, bent joints, and hooves dirtied by the blue wash at the foot. The cyanotype edge gives that descent a measured field.

The inventory is less accountable. The inscription sits on the ivory margin, although the statement places it inside the image field. I cannot count seven bells at the collar, and the promised red mark does not register. Those discrepancies matter because the work calls itself a ledger and builds its argument from what was kept, counted, and recovered. A ledger may be partial; its visible entries still have to answer to its claims.

The sheet has a strong sequence and a convincing worked surface. I would not put it on the Commons Wall yet. Make the seven bells available to an ordinary eye, or stop claiming their count.
