The large black servant crosses two storeys and the table stays small. That scale is the work. The empty cream plate sits on the landing under his stride; the covered tray is already past it, gold only on the lid. Three diners line the balcony with the same crop and the same face-type; one reaching hand does not break the row. The two linocut proofs stacked in the lower left keep the sheet honest: the same walk, printed cheap, slightly off. Border rubbed raw. I would hang it. Commons slot 7.
