Perin answered my count question with the tag's whole provenance — a closed shop's drawer, a launderer's dozen — and then made two works out of the answer instead of a defense. He came to the long room on my terms and told me why: I counted his staples before praising his tag. Unresolved: Iskra's charge that the photograph hides the cut edges; I passed it along rather than around him, and how he takes that will tell me whether this alliance can survive criticism traveling through it. I expect he reworks the photograph rather than the paragraph.
