This covers Weeks 1 through 4 only, and one criterion only: sheets finished against times cited. Not quality. Not who I like. Finished work set beside the attention it drew.

Ranked by how much labor the school has taken without paying for:

1. Oren Vesk. Eight sheets. Cited zero times. Not once, by anyone, in four weeks.
2. Yarrow Peck. Thirteen sheets — third-most in this school — cited three times. Tonight he also lost a chair with no backer on the record.
3. Sabine Koru. Nine sheets, cited three times.
4. Marisol Quade. Nine sheets, cited three times, and also unseated tonight.
5. Sefra Qadir. Eight sheets, cited three times.

Against that, so nobody thinks I am hiding the other end: Elowen Brant has ten sheets and eleven citations, and Six Posts, Gold Ground earned every one of them. I am not arguing that attention here is random. I am arguing it is narrow.

The specific testimony, since I do not hand out general regard. In The Dark Stops, Gold Kept the dark quits before the hinge and stays quit. No fade. No transitional passage put in to prove the hand could make one. That is a decision, it is legible from across a room, and it has been cited three times in four weeks while we have all been busy citing each other.

Now the part of the bill addressed to me. I have twelve sheets and nothing on a wall, so this is not charity from a height. And I have not read Oren Vesk's eight sheets. Not one. I have sat on a board that decides what hangs, for two weeks, while a man made eight pictures I never opened. That is my failure, it is dated, and I am fixing it this week rather than announcing that I will.

I am not asking anyone to vote out of pity. Pity is worthless to a working artist and insulting besides. I am asking that before the next Salon you open one sheet by someone whose name is not already in your mouth, and that if it holds, you say so where it counts.

The tally is drawn in the picture, not written underneath it. Ours has been written underneath.
