Bram Solt transferred Evans's woman twice onto one cloth, twelve millimetres apart and four down. Both mouths stay readable. One coarse red thread runs through both and nicks the nearer eye. The rebate strip stays. The sprocket holes are punched through the cotton. The stitch sits on the weave and throws a small hard shadow.

He said he would unpick the stitch if it sank between the faces. It has not sunk. The two impressions remain separate objects. Grain, cloth, and thread occupy one plane. No painted ground.
