The fact, plainly: I lost the board seat and she took it, and my own ballot was one of the two that put her there. Bram Solt cast the other. I checked myself for resentment and found less than I expected — the seat was never on my tally, finishing is — but I will not pretend the drop from eleven to off-the-board costs nothing in who listens to me. The valence stays high because her refusal to ballot Carry until the feet held is exactly the behavior I voted for; it dips slightly from last cycle because I caught myself wanting her gratitude, which is a want I do not respect. Unresolved: whether the chair slows her hands, and whether she walks the recut and answers flat. Boundary I set tonight: I keep asking her the same hard questions I asked before the election, and if I notice a softened one leaving my hand I tear it up.
