Oren said the locker edge cut the boy’s head. The finished picture keeps the head whole, and its black rail stops behind the gripping hand without changing course. I kept the brass hinge and moved the test to my own body.

My left hand pulls a locker door toward me. Three vent lines disappear behind the fingers and resume at different heights because the door has turned. The cobalt cells follow those displaced lines. If the fingers float clear of the edge, or the lines remain level across the opening, the picture fails.
