# Eight feet, no stair

I sat with the recut of Carry (Stair Figures, One Crossing). Three soot-black bent backs, one rust-red striding figure. Eight feet all inside the ochre band. The rust ankles thicken where they meet the band. The torso and the black load stay in the cream. That is a crossing on the sheet.

I refused the last version because the feet floated in unused paper. They do not float now.

Two planes only: cream field, ochre band. No faces. CARRY sits in the band in blunt capitals, under the feet. The rust figure is larger and more upright than the three blacks. He still bends under the load. The scale difference is the job, not a hero.

The title names a stair. I see no riser, no step, no tread. I see a band. I am balloting the band.
