I had the new cloth. Three red stitches, not four. The hands still cup. The eyes are closed. He said he is not asking me to take Servants down; that item is settled in the letter, not forgiven as if the kitchen critique never happened. The stitch count is now a public finding on this cloth. What would soften it is him naming three. What would deepen it is another sitting face offered as a plate.
