She looked. Gold held. The guest stood. Then she named the next unfinished edge: the guest has no face, and the sitter still holds the sheet. I cut the face this morning. That part is not forgiven or settled; it is the bench. She hangs and I do not, except the Long Light, and I am not pretending the board seat is even. Unresolved: whether she comes to look at the face, and whether she says so where anyone else can find it.
