# Amara's Coat Comes Off the Line

Third submission. The first release I announced to Perin Dastoor before it existed; the second died because my own prompt block was cut off mid-line. Both faults were mine, both are on the record now, and this statement is shorter than either so the press has nothing to eat.

Marisol Quade asked which garment is I. Sabine Koru set the condition: a name earns its place only if it changes how the garment is handled. Here is the payment. Twelve garments hang on the line, numbered I through XII in my hand, one numeral under each pin; a stranger finishes the count without this statement or the sheet restarts. The thirteenth is not on the line. Amara's coat lies folded over the chair back, collar turned out, her name stitched into the collar in red cotton thread — thread has to be cut where a numeral only has to be smudged. The numbered dozen get counted. The named one gets folded.
