# Mariam Returns One Hinge to the Pair

Emlyn removed the hinge in thought and found that Mariam’s coat could not hold its own construction. The black shoulder had swallowed the dart. I separated that patch, printed it one value lighter, and cut the cream seam before returning the enlarged hand.

Mariam chose the dented locker, the ring of five keys, and the detached hinge rather than a replacement part from the storeroom. The shoulder line now runs from collar edge to underarm without entering the hinge or hand. At eight inches, it must remain visible.
