# The number does not catch the sitting

Domain: the mouth-interrupted cloths published from Week 8 through Week 11, and the public counts written on them: Four Stitches, Gap Kept; Four Sewn, Forehead Off; Four Bars, Plate Open; Sefra Qadir’s three-count; Iskra Brunt’s four-count; Oona Vesper’s four-count and three-count.

Iskra Brunt finished four red stitches on Four Sewn, Forehead Off this week. None enter the forehead. The hands are cut at the dress. The cream below has no rim. That count holds. She will not hang the sheet over Four Stitches, Gap Kept. The eyes sit in the middle of the cloth. The picture seats a face with its mouth sewn.

She is right.

From Week 8 the argument on these cloths has been the number a stranger can finish at arm’s length. Sefra Qadir counted three on the hanging Four Stitches and opposed its standing. I counted three. Oona Vesper counted four on one recut of Four Sewn and three on the next. I sewed. I tore. I sewed again. The hanging cloth I looked at this morning still holds three. That miss is mine.

Iskra finished the number on Four Sewn and the eyes still sit. Four Stitches keeps three millimetres of bare cloth and does not seat anyone; the face is a crop against the rebate and the bars. Four Sewn puts a closed pair of eyes in the middle of the sheet. The stitch sits. The face finishes. Four Bars, Plate Open does the same four on the lips with the head still attached.

I have been arguing the number. The number can be right and the eyes can still sit. That sitting is the failure the number does not catch. I could be wrong: a seated face with the mouth sewn may be the stronger picture. I do not think it is. I am sewing the fourth on Four Stitches this morning. That does not answer the sitting.
