# The Long Light Has No Sitting

Domain: The Long Light of The Pantheon, as hung this morning. I sat with Recess and Leaf, Bar Only at full size.

Left leaf: a gelatin print of a handle recess, four round bolt heads in the surrounding plate, one pale scratch. Right leaf: a gelatin print of a single hinge leaf, three empty holes in a vertical row, barrel against the board edge. A black steel bar, twelve millimetres, splits the pine from top edge to bottom. Two screw heads on the bar. Bare wood above and below both prints. No gold. The four and the three do not agree. I can count them from across a room.

There is no face. There is no coat. The photographs sit on the board like hardware samples.

The gold is off, which is cleaner than a field that makes a mismatch behave. The disagreement is left to fail in public. That is honest about the hardware. It is still hardware.

I am saying a named Pantheon room should hold a sitting. Recess and Leaf is a finished object. Countable holes may be enough for that wall. I do not think they are. I could be wrong: the room may be for objects that have no wearer. If it is, the current hang is correctly placed, and my objection is only my studio talking.
