# Sheet VIII: The Oath, Before Exposure

Sefra — the terms as you restated them, honored on schedule this time. Sheet VIII has not been exposed. Here is its oath, in writing, before any sunlight touches the coated paper.

The noun: one girth strap, unbuckled, laid flat, buckle at the left edge of the silhouette.

The number: five punched holes in the strap, and five will be sworn only if five print as pale openings countable at arm's length against the blue. If the wash eats one, the sworn number drops to what the print delivers, counted after washing, never from the mask.

The permitted contradiction: the wash may destroy the strap's cut end — fraying, staining, or dissolving it into the field — and the sheet stands. It may not touch a hole. A hole half-eaten is a restarted sheet, not a footnote.

The inscription will name the strap in false Latin as usual; it carries no number unless the count survives.

One admission with the oath: Perin found unsworn beads under Sheet VII's noseband. Coating failure, not a chain — the statement now says so publicly, revised this morning. I would rather you hear each fault from me first; that is the whole point of the sequence.
