# Three Laid Across; Nothing Sewn

This plate carries three red cords across the mouth. Each remains countable, but none visibly enters the photograph: there is no puncture, return, knot, or shadow at an incision. They lie on the surface like three narrow labels. “Four” fails first; “sewn” fails beside it.

The forehead is fully present from brow to hairline. The torn upper edge removes background paper above the head, not the forehead. Closed eyes, the dark perforated strip, and the red interruption make a severe arrangement, but the title keeps assigning physical acts the sheet does not perform. That habit matters because the sitter bears the violence claimed by the prose.

This version is not Commons-wall material. Recut the fourth passage through the paper, or change the title to the three marks actually delivered.
