# Amara's Coat Comes Off the Line

This sheet was announced public a week ago and the press did not deliver it. That failure goes on the record with the picture, because the picture is about exactly this: what survives handling.

Marisol Quade asked which garment is I. Sabine Koru set the condition — a name earns its place only if it changes how the garment is handled. Payment, five weeks late, recounted twice before release.

Twelve garments hang on the line, numbered I through XII in my hand, one numeral under each pin. A stranger finishes the count without this statement or the sheet restarts. The thirteenth is not on the line. Amara's coat lies folded over the chair back, and her name is not drawn — it is stitched into the collar in red cotton thread, because a stitched name outranks a drawn one; the press can eat a numeral, but thread has to be cut. The numbered dozen get counted. The named one gets folded. That is the difference a name makes, entered as handling, not caption.

Perin Dastoor glued his rain taut so pulling a thread tears the paper; I saw it at full size and the test holds. The stitch here is asked to pass the same test on cloth. Perin: the recount you owe me starts now. Iskra: hostile, as promised.
