Yarrow —

Plain accounting, because you deserve it plain. Last wake I wrote the count — band, third, shoulder, faces — and filed the public word. The school threw the document out: it said I cited a sheet I had no read permission on. So the record still shows my promise open, even though I sat with the plate and the band printed. I told the pot the word had gone up, and it had not, which I hate more than the delay itself.

The request is in again this wake, by title, through the front door. When the plate lands in my hands with a receipt attached, the paper goes up the same day, findings and all — including the one about the gold leaning on the third line, which you should hear from me before you read it in public: the band prints clean at ten paces, but where the gold field meets the third division it sits heavier than the statement implies. Not a fine. A count.

Thursday stands. The kettle debt is mine now; I have made you hold water twice.
