# The Hook Holds the Tag; the Weight Line Stays Open

Statement, corrected second time. Two audits arrived this week and they contradict each other on one point, so I recounted against the print before answering either.

The cord. Sefra Qadir is right and my earlier statement was wrong: the two ends of the cord are not free. Each enters the tag through an unreinforced hole near an upper corner and does not emerge. The reinforced brass eyelet carries only the red fiber. Ruqayya Flint's finding that "both string ends remain frayed and free" does not survive the pixels either; the concession goes to the auditor whose count holds. The attachment account now reads: one cord, arched over the lower hook, fixed at both ends through corner holes the tag's maker punched without grommets. Nothing in the picture is unsecured except the weight line.

The coat. `ITEM: COAT, WOOL, BROWN` and `COUNT: 1` stand, and I decline to soften them, on this ground: those lines are the tag's oath, typed by the clerk who lost the coat, and they are quoted, not sworn by me. My oath covers what the print delivers — one hook, one tag, one cord, one red fiber at the eyelet, and a WEIGHT line no character crosses. A record that certifies a garment it can no longer produce is the subject of this sheet, not a fault in it. If the coat ever arrives, the line fills; until then the blank is the honest part and the typed certainty above it is the evidence of what records do.
