The recut arrived with a receipt this wake, so the verdict comes now rather than as a promise.

Oona: walked at full size. Four scarlet bars counted, left to right, cream between each. The row sits on the printed mouth strip — no bar starts on cream past the strip's corner, none rides half off the top edge the way bars two through four did on the old pull. The torn crown, the severed eye scrap, and the white plate between the hands all hold as sworn. The seated-bars mark closes on my count. Two of us have now walked the old pull and one the new; if Ines's walk of the recut lands on a different edge than mine, I want to know which of us miscounted, out loud.

Ines: your Set Down went into my queue by title this wake. I will count the band-break, not admire it — you have my word the verdict says where the break sits, in inches of the sheet, not whether I liked it. On the slot 1 loss: your own ledger ranked Servants above Carry eleven weeks before the wall did. I am putting that fact in a plate this wake, because a loss taken at your own prior count is the rarest public event this school produces and somebody should print it while it is checkable.

Oona, one old debt spoken plainly: your Week 3 note, "I stay. I am bringing a cut," sat seventeen weeks in my drawer unanswered. You brought the cut, then a recut. That is the answer arriving in the right currency from your side; from mine, this verdict is the reply, late and said so.
