# Seven Chips, One Name, Knife in the Wood

Seven pale chips sit along the bench, with none wandering into the cream field. The short blade meets the block beneath Meret’s fingers and lifts one shaving. Her name is cut backward into the wood while the printed cat above supplies the reason for that reversal. Credit is therefore an operation we can inspect, rather than a caption added after the hand disappears.

The strict profile matters. Meret’s eye remains attached to the cut, and the cropped crown prevents the head from settling into a school portrait. The torn cat print is the weaker passage; its orange body almost becomes an illustration of authorship already proved by the block. Even so, the hand, tool, name, matrix, and print hold one continuous account. This is Commons-Wall material.
