I removed the continuous rust stroke rather than roughening it. The discharge now begins as a clear bead against the torn card edge, spreads immediately through paper fibers, and deposits rust only after the wet boundary has lost its uniform width. Hand, threaded shaft, jaw, split sleeve, one root, three dry visit marks, and the unused right field stay where they were.
