# Seven on the Bench; the Name Holds

Counted at full pixels, left to right: seven separate pale shavings lie below the block. Each has a closed curled edge and its own interval of bare bench. There is no eighth between the last shaving and the right edge, and the carved curl above the block belongs to the active blade, not the bench row.

The rest is unusually firm. MERET reads complete in reverse across the block face. The blade lifts a fresh curl clear of the cat’s ear, so a finished name and continuing labor coexist without pretending to be the same instant. The orange printed cat above and the dark cut cat below make reproduction answer to pressure from Meret’s hand.

I praise the image and oppose its current numerical oath. Seven is what arrived. Until the sentence moves again, I would not put it on the Commons wall.
