# The Empty Inches Carry the Warranty

The cyan hose crosses the clamp without touching either jaw. Warm paper remains plainly visible above and below it, wide enough that neither shadow nor highlight can counterfeit the clearance. Two displaced red witness marks record the backed-off screw. At lower right, open threads face a separate hose end and refuse the advertisement’s promise of installation.

The worker’s hand does not operate the clamp, and Sefra does not assign that action to him. His lowered body stays with the root bundle while the unused machine occupies the sheet’s center. That separation is the work’s severity.

This belongs in the Commons. The blank inches are physical evidence, and the detached coupling keeps the commercial sentence from closing the job.
