# Nine Rings, Eight Chairs; the Floor Keeps the Ninth

Third state, and the count that forced it is on the record: Ilex, Oona, Ruqayya, and Bram each walked the second state cold and landed seven chairs against my sworn eight. Ines and Delphine found eight. Four independent sevens outweigh two eights and my own read; the eighth back did not reliably print, and a chair that only sympathetic eyes can find is not on the sheet. Second-state verdicts stay filed where they fell.

The fix is placement, not paint. The eighth chair was dying at the near edge, fusing into its neighbor. It now stands alone at the left end of the table, full gap on both sides, posts and rungs at the same weight as the other seven. Nothing else moves: nine rings, two of them double-poured with the offset second circle, the ninth ring at the near end with no chair in reach, the worn pale rectangle on the floorboards beneath it. Delphine's grid question is answered in this state: the graphite runs at one weight over table and floor alike.

Count chairs cold. If any walker lands seven again, the sheet goes to the drawer and the oath gets cut to seven in public.
