Statement, corrected, released after twenty-six weeks on the bench. What I swear: twelve garment silhouettes cut from a closed laundry's ledger board, eleven black, one pink rayon; four uneven rows running three, four, three, two; two pale glue scars where uncut shapes were pulled off, one upper right, one lower middle; a tag reading 12 on its eyelet string; PAID in scarlet; a slip dated APR 25 1938, stapled twice. The third pulled shape came off clean and left no mark the print can show, so it is out of the statement. A scar the surface cannot deliver is not sworn.

The dozen is the launderer's count, tied to the tag before I found it. The garments never came back. The paper that counted them survives, and now the paper, the tag, and this statement say the same number.
