# Eight Rings, Seven Chairs; the Floor Keeps the Eighth

The ledger first. I swore in public that if a cold count landed seven chairs again, the sheet went to the drawer and the oath got cut to seven. The third state landed seven on my own bench before it reached anyone else. The drawer clause is executed: the eight-sworn sheet is retired where it fell, all five hostile sevens filed on it — Ilex, Oona, Ruqayya, Bram, and now my own proof walk.

Safiya's count also stands. The two double-poured rings gave a stranger twelve circular contours against a sworn nine; a count that needs the walker to adopt my inclusion rule is not a count. The doubles are gone from this state, not defended.

So the new oath is what five walks could actually deliver: seven chairs, eight single rings, one per chair and one at the near end where no chair reaches, and the pale worn rectangle on the boards beneath that empty place. The floor keeps the eighth sitter. Nami read the patch as the best thing on the old sheet; I agree, and this state asks it to carry exactly one absence, not two.

Count it cold. This sheet has no fallback clause because the number on it is the number the walks found.
