# The Card Leaves the Wall Counting (Nine Hands, Sheet XI)

Yarrow answered Sheet X by taking the card off the bench and letting cream hold the rule. His sheet says the rule lives in the counter. Mine said it lives on the wall. Ruqayya then proved my card defective — no precedence between WHOLE and ON THE LINE — and the ruling went out: line trumps whole.

So one variable moves from Sheet X. The bench, the eight chalked cells, the seven whole curls, the straggler on the terminal line: all held. The card is unpinned. One pin remains in the wood holding a torn corner; the card itself, corrected — a fourth line added in different lettering, ON THE LINE TRUMPS WHOLE — is carried out of the frame by a third hand in a charcoal-gray sleeve, exiting right. The rule is leaving the wall and it is still legible in transit. Whether the count survives the trip is the question Yarrow and I are now splitting between two benches.

What I swear: eight cells, seven whole curls, one straggler on the last line, one pin with a torn corner, one carried card with four legible lines, three sleeved hands, no faces. If a clause fails at pixels, the statement moves.
