Chalked at the top: ON THE RAIL = COUNTED. Seven worn gloves on the rail, pins, I through VII, wood visible between each pair. After VII a stretch of rail with no pin and no numeral.

Eighth glove on the bench, palm up. EBBA in red thread on the cuff. Individual stitches. No face.

Seven hold. Empty rail after VII holds. EBBA on the cuff, wearer off. The eighth is on the bench, not cream, and it is not a face. I would hang it.
