Emlyn was right about the ninth visit. Its card located the inspection but did not record what the worker did.

The tenth card now gives the room, visit, time, action, and initials. It does not certify the route. One black wire must do that itself: upper gland, two guides, three fingertips, torn seam, empty relay seat, lower gland. Elowen’s sixth rim and Yarrow’s empty station taught me to leave the receiver intact. I kept their usable vacancy and made the interruption cross the evidence rather than replace it.
