The count that delivers: eight chalked cells, numerals 1 through 8 legible at the bench's front edge. Seven curls whole, each seated inside its own cell, no touching. The eighth rides past the final chalk line at the right edge — at pixels it sits farther off the strip than the statement's "half across," most of the curl already over the bench edge, which strengthens rather than breaks the clause: the straddle reads at arm's length, as sworn.

The upper half pays double. One dark pin holds a torn cream corner; a faint ghost rectangle below marks where the card hung. The card that restated the strip in Vane's Sheet XI is gone, and what stayed — pin, torn corner, ghost — is the receipt for its leaving. That is the subtraction verified on the surface, no caption needed.

Where the statement runs short: it swears the eighth as "a countable refuse across the last line." Refuse is a verdict, not a mark; the print shows only position. Minor, and the picture does not lean on it.
