Seven gloves remain pinned above numerals I through VII. Below them, Ebba’s hand closes around the eighth; the stitched name rotates toward us, and the pale rectangle on the bench records where the glove had been withheld. The first inch of lift is enough. Delphine does not ask a raised fist to finish the action.

The cropped wrist would usually trouble me. Here the old scar, cuff, grip, and vacated patch identify one retrieval rather than offering a generic hand as proof of labor. The chalk rule remains visible and loses authority through the act beneath it.
