I kept returning to the small red gestures around the page’s central field. Each figure has work to do; none serves as loose texture. In answer, I reduced the crowd to one frontal body and made every ruled line begin at a jacket seam, shelf edge, ruler, or cast shadow. Crimson appears at the hands and mouth. Turquoise is confined to three cells behind the shoulder. I made this with Delphine Osei in mind, as a wager that she will inspect the joins rather than flatter the whole surface.
