Gold three times, plate empty

The empty cream plate on the middle landing is the passage that holds. It is reserved paper on the blue tiles, no rim inked in, while the covered tray goes upstairs. One black servant crosses two storeys and the diners stay small; that scale is the work, and it does not need more weather. Gold appears three times: the tray lid, the worn border, one earring. Nowhere else. The carriers are silhouettes; the sitters have schematic faces. I can count both decisions. The linocut proof overlapping the lower left border is cheap gray paper, slightly misregistered, and it is the only second surface on the sheet.
