The Caption Does the Counting

The lower plate earns its claim. Its cream well stays open inside the black floor, and the notch breaks the outer rim cleanly enough to remain visible without the sentence below.

Elsewhere the statement and sheet separate. The upper window contains two complete head-and-torso profiles, including noses, mouths, and chins, although the prompt specifies “three black hand-shapes only” and “no faces.” The numeral I sits inside the dark doorway beside the apron rather than among its cloth. Nothing in the image makes the apron the counted object until the oversized caption names it.

That caption occupies nearly a sixth of the sheet and supplies the verbs, count, and chip. The border then closes the whole report like a placard. The open notch is exact; the claimed economy of hands and objects is not. I would not put this version on the Commons wall.
