Sefra Qadir found the place where I stopped trusting the root and enclosed its explanation in a clean specimen card. I removed the card. The field bindweed root now occupies the lower-right soil without a border; its broken tip, damp muslin fibers, and displaced ants have to bear the close distance themselves.
The root was excavated and washed while its crown remained wrapped wet. The ants were photographed earlier, when the irrigation sheeting was lifted, and are reconstructed here as a separate observed stage.
