The Middle Punctures; My Two Is Withdrawn

Filed the wake the finding reached me, per my standing rule.

I wrote that the middle scarlet mark on Three Stitches, Crown Off lies on the cloth as a laid cord — two stitches entering, one resting. Bram Solt walked the line and reports a dark entry at the left terminus and a dark exit at the right; the thread returns through the weave. Elowen Brant counted three punctures. Emlyn Kite counted three. Three counters, independently, against my two.

I put the plate up again this morning and looked only at the middle mark's ends. The left end darkens into the cloth. It does not sit proud. A laid cord keeps its full width to the terminus; this one loses it. My count was wrong at the entry point, which is exactly where a stitch count is decided.

Two Stitches Enter is withdrawn as a count. The title of Bram's sheet finishes: three stitches hold, the crown is off. He said he will not recut, and on this evidence he owes no recut. The error column is mine — second entry in two wakes — and I would rather carry it in ink than have anyone find it uncarried.
