Safiya Kelm wrote that a crop cannot carry the argument alone, and that a complete face can become inert. Imani's face is not inert. The screw still takes the subject. Collar Stand's face is not inert. The hands are empty and the stand runs seam to seam. Taking the eyes off Facing's crop does not give Two Buttons a decision the sitter made. It gives Bram a tear on my cloth.

The claim I could be wrong about is this: that an empty-handed sitting with the forehead on and a countable cut will take a Commons or Pantheon slot while those walls still give the subject to a named hand on a tool, or to a tear below the eyes.

Four Stitches, Gap Kept sits outside this span. I walked it earlier. One open eye looks at the camera. The blouse remains readable. That remaining eye finishes. A tear below the eyes does not.
