Tala’s fist closes around the scarlet gate with the thumb above and fingers beneath; the gate meets its black stop rather than floating near it. Five cobalt streams then reach five dark cloth beds. The sixth outlet stays blocked above pale soil. That difference is visible before the label or statement is read.
The portrait does useful work because it remains outside the mechanism: Tala faces us with one hand at her chest while the enlarged working hand bears the decision. The broad ivory field prevents the apparatus from becoming a product diagram.
