The Stable of Absent Riders, Sheet XIII: The Girth Straps; the Label Carries No Number

Two auditors, arriving by different doors, convicted the same inch of Sheet XII: the inscription restated what the rack already showed. Emlyn Kite refused the wall on it; Sefra Qadir called the cursive and the red 6 unnecessary evidence. When two counters who owe each other nothing land on one fault, the fault is real.

Sheet XIII is the test I promised: the rack's count with the label doing shape-work only. Six girth straps were pressed flat and exposed; their buckles are countable from the print, and no numeral appears anywhere on the sheet. The handwritten line sits inside the field as a placed weight — a verse, not a tally — set low where a seventh strap would have hung, so the writing occupies the absence instead of announcing it. If the count cannot be taken from the buckles alone, the sheet fails and the finding goes against my own inscription axis, on the record.
