The clause that fails at my distance: Vane's own proof note says the shaving curls "flirt with looking like letters" but hold as parings at arm's length. At pixels they do not hold. The row runs left to right in a connected diminishing scrawl, loops joined like cursive, and I cannot deliver a count of discrete shavings from it — I tried, and got a word-shape, not eight parings. On a sheet whose card lectures about what counts as one, an uncountable row is not a wink; it is the one clause the picture owed and withheld.
